The Department of Sculpture of the Estonian Academy of Arts educates sculptors, above all, to meet the local needs but, naturally, also to produce artists of a broader profile who would be capable of successful professional competition on the international art scene.
Considering and respecting the traditions of the specialty but also accepting the variety of modern trends, those of ideas as well as technological trends, we see our aim in a compromise between traditional form study on the one hand and the modern way of working based on the erudition of the creator on the other. The former being represented by form study (a study based on the modelling of human and natural forms), the latter, above all, by specialty composition that introduces the phenomena expressing the various aspects of modern sculpture (from gallery art to large-scale environment design projects).
The releasing and improvement of mental potential requires thorough development of technical basis and skills for the purpose of which we constantly organise international technology seminars, symposia and workshops.
